BUKIT PADANG – Parishioners of the Church of Mary Immaculate here marked their feast day on 6 Dec 2015 with a Marian procession.  The statue of Our Lady, simply but beautifully decorated with roses, was carried by four wardens, preceded by the altar servers and flower girls, and followed by the extraordinary ministers of Holy Communion, lectors, Deacon Joshua, Fr Rhobby Mojolou, Korean Fr Germano Ka, Fr Moses Lui, and Archbishop John Wong in the procession.

In his homily, the prelate touched on the readings of the day.  But he also asked the congregation to reflect on the following three questions: Who is coming? Why is he coming? How does one prepare for his coming or how would one respond to this coming? throughout the Advent Season.  He said that if one knows who is the one coming then one would also know how to respond or prepare for his coming.

After the Mass, the faithful adjourned to the canteen for fellowship.  In his welcoming remarks, Parish Pastoral Council Chairman Bartholomew Kong welcomed those present, introduced the members of the the PPC and made a heartfelt plea to the parishioners to cooperate with the councillors to realise the mission of the parish.  He also expressed his hope that a hall would be built soon so that the parishioners would have a place to gather together for various activities.

Someone once said, “no preparation no celebration.”  In line with that, some parishioners prepared themselves spiritually for the event through a triduum of prayer with the theme on the Year of Mercy on Dec 3-5, since the Extraordinary Jubilee Year of Mercy will be opened on Dec 8, the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception, and the feast day of the parish.

PURAK, Papar – The Franciscan Sisters of the Immaculate Conception celebrated their feast day on 8 Dec 2015 at their Pace Bene Centre here on a low key.  It also marked the conclusion of their six-day retreat facilitated by Brother Kipoy of Brothers of St Joseph of Congo.  Archbishop John Wong presided at the Mass, concelebrated with Fr Thomas Yip and Fr Thomas Madanan, who acted as their chaplains with three days each.

In his homily, the prelate presented his Advent theme to those present – the Sisters, their lay associates, benefactors and collaborators – and representatives of the other religious institutes, viz is to “read the bible, receive the sacraments, live the commandments, and go and evangelise.”  He also mentioned that the intention of their Founder, Msgr August Wachter, in putting them under the maternal protection of the Immaculate Conception, was to remind them to be as open to the working of the Holy Spirit as their heavenly patroness was.

After the Mass, all adjourned for the fellowship lunch at the dining hall.
